The Sorbian School Center is the only school in the world in which pupils have the opportunity to learn Sorbian from elementary school to high school.
The building of today's Sorbian school centre was founded at the beginning of the 20th century as a new Catholic teachers' seminar. During the Nazi regime it was used as a customs school for the Reich Finance Administration and as a reserve military hospital. At the end of the 2nd World War the house was completely destroyed. As part of the reconstruction, a dome was erected on the roof of the east wing, which has been used in the meantime as the seat of the Bautzen school observatory. During the late 1950s it was the seat of the Sorbian Institute for Teacher Training. There Sorbian-speaking educators and teachers were trained. After the political change the institute was closed. Since then the building has been the seat of the Sorbian Grammar School. After complete renovation in 2008, the Sorbian Primary and Secondary Schools are now also located here. Pupils have the opportunity to learn the Sorbian language from elementary school to high school. Mehr
