District office of Bautzen County
The first district administrator of the county Bautzen was the Sorb Jan Cyž. Later he was the publisher of the Sorbian newspaper.
The present seat of the Administrative District of Bautzen is located directly opposite the Sorbian Institute. The building was established at the beginning of the 20th century as the house of the Upper Lusatian country estates with a provincial bank. The Upper Lusatian provincial coat of arms above the portal comes from the baroque predecessor building at the street “Schlossstraße”. The first district administrator was the Sorb Dr. Jan Cyž, co-founder of the Domowina and manager of the Nowa-Doba printing plant.
